Rin stayed busy for the next couple of months, not giving a thought to the Heath-Dragon or the gold that now lay at the bottom of Lake Lagarfljot. One day, she overheard two field hands talking.

“It’s a menace, I tell you,” said the first one.

“Yow, something must be done, and soon,” replied the other. “None of us, man or beast, will soon be safe from that monster.”

“Jonas heard that the serpent came right up on land, spitting venom and ate up three sheep in just one bite!”

Rin listened and was certain the serpent they spoke of was the Heath-Dragon she had thrown into the lake. How could such a thing have happened? People were being terrorized and livestock eaten by a monster she created. She quickly ran to the house and confessed everything to her mother. Her mother was wise in many things and knew exactly what to do.

She immediately sent for two Sami warriors from Finland. They were fierce Viking warriors and were known to be the most skilled at battling sea monsters. The fastest ship in the land was sent to bring them back to Lake Lagarfljot.

The Sami warriors arrived within weeks, to the great relief of everyone that lived around the lake. The warriors dove into the lake and quickly found the serpent. They used their great strength and fought long and hard against the beast.

The battle raged and the Finns finally managed to secure the beast. When they came out of the water, they shared what they had found.

There was not just one Heath-Dragon in the lake, but two. One was under the gold and the other above it. The two together were fiercer than any other monster the Finns had ever battled.

“There is no doubt the larger of the two is descendent from the Icelandic Guardian, the Dragon,” one of the Sami proclaimed. “That beast is protective of the smaller dragon, and they both protect the gold.”

They could not kill them, they were too strong. Neither could they recover the gold with both dragons protecting it. The best the Finns were able to do was chain both serpents down. This would keep them from coming out of the water.
